Milling

Local wood that has fallen or been taken down due to safety is milled by Jason into an appropriate thickness of bowl blanks. A physical but rewarding stage of the process working directly from the source. The boards are stored for 6-12 months to start drying.

Blanks are cut from milled green wood to start the bowl turning process. The blanks are rough turned into 1" thick bowls, sealed, and left to dry in the kiln for 6 weeks until they reach 10-12% moisture content.

Final turn & finish

Once dry bowls are second turned taking out any rough surface and reducing the thickness to around 1cm. All bowls are then sanded and oiled using food safe tung oil and left to dry before reaching a shelf near you!
